Chiaroscuro - What Is It???
Chiaroscuro is an art technique that uses light and shadow to create depth and contrast in a drawing or painting. It involves using a range of light values, from bright highlights to dark shadows, to make objects appear three-dimensional and realistic. In simpler terms, chiaroscuro is all about playing with light and dark to make your artwork look more lifelike and dramatic.
We are preessing further into our shadows and highlights by creating drama through lighting and utilizing the chiaroscuro technique. See examples below:

This week on TWITCH we will look at creating textures through shading and highlighting.
Without further ado - our daily challenges for this week :-)
This week 5/5-5/11- one sketch a day::
Shading Basics with a Pear: Practice shading a pear to understand the principles of chiaroscuro. Experiment with creating smooth transitions between light and shadow to bring out the pear's unique shape and texture.
Contrast Experiment with a Pomegranate: Draw a pomegranate using strong contrasts between light and shadow. Highlight the pomegranate's round shape and the contrast between its glossy, jewel-like seeds and the dark, textured skin. Experiment with creating dynamic lighting to enhance the visual impact of the pomegranate's intricate details.
Portrait of a Kiwi: Illustrate a close-up portrait of a kiwi fruit, focusing on its intricate details and vibrant colors. Use chiaroscuro techniques to enhance the texture of the kiwi's fuzzy skin and the contrast between its juicy flesh and seeds.
Rendering a Dragon Fruit: Create a detailed rendering of a dragon fruit using chiaroscuro techniques. Focus on capturing the unique shape, texture, and colors of the fruit, including its vibrant pink skin, speckled with small protrusions, and the contrasting white flesh dotted with black seeds. Experiment with light and shadow to emphasize the dragon fruit's distinct features and create a dynamic composition.
Fruit in a Landscape: Mango in a Tropical Setting: Incorporate a mango into a tropical landscape scene, using chiaroscuro to add depth and atmosphere. Capture the lush foliage and warm sunlight filtering through the trees, casting dappled shadows on the mango.
Single Light Source on a Lemon: Draw a lemon illuminated by a single light source, casting distinct shadows. Experiment with positioning the light to create dynamic shadow patterns and emphasize the lemon's bright yellow skin and textured surface.
Exploring Texture with a Passion Fruit: Challenge yourself to render a passion fruit using chiaroscuro techniques. Focus on capturing the texture and details of the fruit's wrinkled skin, glossy exterior, and vibrant interior colors. Experiment with light and shadow to enhance the depth and realism of your drawing.
